My view on the laws in Colombia is a question that many of us ask ourselves, as this issue is not so simple, since the appropriateness of the punishment varies according to the crime and the circumstances in which it is committed. I believe that the objective of the Penal Code is to establish penalties proportional to the seriousness of the crimes, taking into account factors such as: the damage caused, the intention of the perpetrator, recidivism, and other relevant circumstances. However, it should be noted that, in some cases, penalties may be disproportionate, as the excessive severity of penalties for drug-related crimes and the inadequacy of penalties for corruption crimes have been criticized. In conclusion, although the aim is to establish appropriate penalties for violations of the law in Colombia, the reality shows that there are still challenges in terms of their adjustment and effective application.
